Short Biography

Dr. Balcioglu is a neuropharmacologist who researches the behavior of neurotransmitters in neurological disease models. Early in her career she earned distinction by developing methods to titrate small neurotransmitter molecules in brain tissue in vivo. She has also developed in vivo methods to study interactions of dopamine, serotonin, GABA, glutamate and acetylcholine in mouse models of degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Dystonia. At the Nedivi Lab she focuses her expertise on dynamics of synaptic circuits and their malfunctions in brain, specifically inhibitory and excitatory innervation of layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons.
